Difficulties with site access

Just prior to the weekend Alice tried to view a couple of blogs that she follows, both are Adult Content sites on blogger/blogspot.

What she found was once she got to the "Sensitive Content" screen and clicked accept, she was blocked from seeing the blog.  It basically stated that she needed to verify her age.  Having tried all of the other blogs she found that it was the same.

At the same time we had noticed that SaraE, had not commented on our last 2 blog posts, which was a little unusual as she and Poppet are are regular commentators.

On Saturday I received an Email from Sara explaining that she could no longer see any blogger or blogspot sites, she doesn't have a Gmail account so is not able to log in .

Having checked with a couple of other friends they also confirmed that they could not access our site or any other blogger sites - unless they logged in with a gmail account.

It now appears that blogger and blogspot have become a closed community.

Is this an issue? - well yes.  previously I would pick up a lot of views of the blog post from people coming from either twitter or tumblr, and it is clear to see that there is a significant drop in viewing traffic on the site.

having spoken with Poppet, she has also noticed a drop in viewing traffic.

Considering we have been slowly rebuilding the blog over the last 6 months this is a bit of a kick.

Here is the real oddity, Alice is a co-author on this blog, she can create and publish posts, having recently set it up and being quite pleased that she could that and also respond to comments without accessing my account.  But now we have the situation that she can create a post, publish it but then is not able to see the post on the blog because she is blocked.

I'd be interested to know if anyone else is having similar problems?

Due to past experiences with blogs being "nuked" we are being just a little bit careful, so backing things up and downloading content.  Hopefully this is just a glitch but I had hoped that blogging would be open for everyone to find, view and comment, not just those that "choose to join the club".

Any thoughts or insights?

  1. I too had to login in with my Gmail account to see some blogs, I suspect it might well be the start of the tightening our government wants to see with respect to adult material, if content server holders are unable to demonstrate responsibility they may be managed or directed by government. Simply they are trying to get their house in order for the eyes of our government.

  3. Sweetie, P,

while I've not had an answer back from blogger, it does seem to be the case that we now have our blogs in a closed community.
The more I dig into this the more I think you are right on this being linked to the new UK legislation.
